This is Phil and Mike, co-owners of Splice Realty. Splice Realty, formerly Philip Hou Real Estate and Lembu Real Estate, is a residential brokerage firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We offer our clients world-class service and extensive knowledge on all facets of real estate that we’ve obtained through decades of experience as top-rated and top-producing brokers.
We have known each other for over 20 years through our networks from MIT and the church community in Boston. Our journeys in real estate started 12 years ago, when we both happened to get our real estate licenses around the same time. Through the years, while building our sales brokerage businesses separately, we have consulted each other when we purchased investment properties, handled legal and ethical dilemmas, and offered counsel and beer when lamenting roof leaks and sewer line failures.
Splice Realty isn’t our first business partnership. While growing our sales brokerages, we also started managing a few of our own investment and rental properties, as well as properties for our friends and clients. Eventually, we decided to consolidate our property management responsibilities into a full-service property management company. We had always wanted to start a business together, and our love of real estate is where we knew our passions could converge with success. Merging our businesses forced us to create systems so we could delegate our services at a higher level. Today we have over 150 tenants, and have solidified our property management and accounting departments to handle the growth and scale of the company.
Once the property management company was fully established and operational, Phil asked, why not do the same thing with our brokerages and use our experiences and complementary skill sets to create better and more thorough service for our clients? We decided to “splice” Philip Hou Real Estate and Lembu Real Estate together to form one brokerage – Splice Realty, formalizing a partnership that we’ve had all along. For years we have been advising and helping each other through our toughest transactions and work-related hurdles. We’ve proven that together we can create an elevated service for our clients, and now we want to translate that level of service to our sales brokerage team.
Our partnership in property management blossomed five years ago, and in that time we have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about investment properties through our firsthand experience. Its growth and success has allowed us to discover the strengths that each of us brings to the table. Phil loves high quality marketing, investment properties, and property renovations. Mike is passionate about home construction and design, agent coaching, and life planning using real estate. We see and understand the values each of us brings to this partnership, and combining these skills is what will make Splice Realty sure to succeed.
Our years of experience translates into what a college buddy of ours calls simple pattern recognition, where once you see enough points of data, you can tell what’s going to happen next. After compiling data over the years, it’s been immensely satisfying to be able to assist people in navigating complicated situations, and also to help people find housing that fits their own unique situations. One box does not fit all! Being able to advise people based not just on what they say they want, but being able to see what’s going to happen next is one of the most satisfying parts of our work.
